Curtain to rise on Edgemont High School’s autumn drama this weekend

BY BLAKE FEINSTEIN

Edgemont High School’s fall drama, The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza, will be performed this Friday and Saturday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. Laugh along as two battling narrators attempt to cover Greek mythology in its entirety using nothing but their notes from Wikipedia and general theatrical insanity. The comedy includes famous myths such as “Hercules” and “Jason and the Argonauts,” as well as “Pandora’s Box,” “Cronos and the Titans,” plus more obscure stories like the myth of Linus. A dance-influenced version of The Iliad–complete with a full-on battle between Barbies and action figures—marks the play’s culmination.

Legends of the theater Edgemont High School's play this weekend focuses on Greek mythology.

EHS school psychologist Dr. Mitch Shapiro is the director of the play. “[It] offers classical education through a contemporary lens,” he said. “It’s a light take on ancient civilizations and the myths that dominated the arts of the time. The dialogue is irreverent, the situations are absurd, and there’s a lot of death… but it’s all in good fun.” Dr. Shapiro noted that he chose this light, silly comedy “because there will be plenty of drama in November.” The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza is perfect for audiences of all ages.
