Tools stolen from construction sites, dog complaints and dogs struck by cars
Scarsdale Police Report Oct. 14-Oct. 20, 2024
Call a plumber
A Carthage Road caller Oct. 14 reported water backed up in their home. Police arrived and saw a basement toilet and shower were backed up. The homeowner was advised to call a plumber.
Lost wallet
A caller Oct. 14 reported he lost his wallet on Christie Place. He described it as brown and bi-fold style. He said he would come by the station later to make an official report.
Dog doesn’t like to be left alone
A Coralyn Road resident Oct. 15 reported a dog was barking for more than fifteen minutes. Police responding didn’t hear any barking but spoke to a dog owner who said their dog let themselves out through the dog door while they were doing errands but was back inside the house now.
Mailbox fishing
A sticky residue was reported Oct. 15 on a mailbox located at Brewster Road and Huntington Avenue. Police said it’s the kind of sticky substance used by criminals trying to fish for letters dropped in the mail slot. The postal inspector was advised.
Locked out
A caller on Herkimer Road Oct. 15 reported they were locked out of their house. Police found entry through an unsecured window and no further assistance was needed.
Dog vs. car incidents
No humans were injured Oct. 16 when a Scarsdale resident traveling eastbound on Crane Road said two dogs ran into the roadway near Carstensen Road. She said she struck the dogs and her car was damaged on the front passenger bumper. No information was provided regarding the struck dogs.
A driver traveling northbound on Brewster Road near Gorham Ct. Oct. 16 said an off leash dog ran into the roadway and into the front of his vehicle. Again, no information was provided regarding the dog.
Suspicious
A man wearing a black hoodie and red boots was reported suspicious Oct. 16 on Freightway Road. Police said he was reported seated on a ramp but they couldn’t find him.
Disturbing man at the library
A man was reported at the library Oct. 16. He was reported to be disturbing customers. Police asked him to leave and he did. He was told not to return until further notice.
Dog complaint unwarranted
A Sprague Road caller Oct. 17 complained her neighbor leaves her dogs outside all day. Police went by the location described and said no dogs were outside the house or could be heard barking.
Hanging around the playground
A caller Oct. 17 reported a suspicious man hanging around the Greenacres School on Huntington Avenue. The caller, who said they work as a crossing guard, described him as older and wearing jeans and a jean jacket. While police were talking to the reporting party, a child ran up to the man and hugged him and the two proceeded to leave the area.
Acting abnormally
A Chase Road caller Oct. 17 called police about a man in a red jacket the caller said was acting abnormally. Police looked for the man but found no one of that description.
Negative interactions with neighbor
A caller on Brewster Road Oct. 17 reported a negative interaction she had with her neighbor. The caller told police she believes the neighbor means to harm her by running her over. She had a video she wanted police to see. They watched it and saw the neighbor backing out of their own driveway and honking at the caller. He then stopped and waited for her to move. Police say the neighbors have an ongoing legal conflict regarding the driveway.
Car vs pedestrian
A woman was reported injured Oct. 18 during a collision at Mamaroneck and Post Road involving a car and a pedestrian. The operator of the car said they were affected by sun glare. The pedestrian, complaining of hip and leg pain, was transported to the hospital by White Plains ambulance. Witnesses inside the car said the car never made contact with the person and that person wasn’t properly in the crosswalk.
Tools stolen from two construction sites
Burglary and petty larceny were reported on Whig Road Oct. 18. The victim is a Scarsdale resident. Police responded to an activated burglar alarm. On arrival, police saw the front door to the location was ajar. It appears someone burglarized the property which is under construction. Building equipment was reported stolen.
Burglary and larceny were reported Oct. 19 at a home on Cooper Road. The victim is a West Harrison resident who said two saws, a table saw, a screw drill, four grinders and other drills were stolen from a construction site which the complainant said was burgled.
Time for kids to come inside
A Stonehouse Road caller Oct. 20 reported loud screaming coming from a home behind her property. Police went to that home and found kids playing in the yard. Since it was rather late, the homeowner said the kids would come inside.
