Soon-to-be-bare shelves.  "I may have to stockpile the rugelach," one saddened customer commented on Facebook.

For more than 17 years, Enrico’s Hartsdale Bakery has been a go-to for area residents. The light-filled shop on East Hartsdale Avenue, conveniently located just steps from the town’s Metro-North station, was easy to duck into for a cup of coffee or a few cookies, or to pick up a cake for occasions large and small. Now, however, its loyal patrons have learned some sad news: The bakery plans to shut its doors forever on December 24th.

An announcement displayed on a sign in the store window, and posted on Instagram and Facebook as well, explains the reasons for the upcoming closure. “This has not been an easy decision to make, but due to Covid and Hurricane Ida we were never able to recover, and trust us we made every effort to keep going,” the sign says in part. “We are grateful to be part of this community that watched our children grow into young adults and to be part of all the holidays, special occasions, and every day needs, and we are proud to have been a part of your family. We look forward to be a part of your holiday season as we have for the last 17 1/2 years for the last time. If there are any special requests you may crave please be sure we will do our best to meet your needs.” The owner adds that he and his wife and children intend to move to South Carolina.
