No leads so far on continued car window smashing spree

Police say incidents of criminal mischief, specifically car windows being smashed, were reported overnight Sept. 1 - Sept. 2 on Ridgecrest East, West and North. The incidents are not being further investigated at this time due to lack of leads. The vandalism continues as a Ridgecrest East resident, 78, told police $251 in damages were incurred to her Subaru. A report was made for her insurance. 

Police are investigating criminal mischief and property damage reported Sept. 2 on Ridgecrest East; similar incidents were reported the same day on Ridgecrest West and North. A Ridgecrest East resident reported the driver’s side window was broken on their 2015 Mercedes. 

Luxury sunglasses swiped

Sunglasses valued at $500 and $200 in cash were reported stolen from a Mercedes parked at a home on Mohican Trail Sept. 2. The car was broken into and the glasses and cash stolen. Police say the incident is closed due to lack of leads. Another Mohican Trail resident said they might have video surveillance useful to the police. 

Car contents stolen

A wallet, $100 cash, a New York State driver’s license and insurance, and a debit card were reported stolen from a Subaru parked on Brewster Road Sept. 2. The caller said his father’s car was broken into. His father was not available to speak to the police. An owner’s deposition was given to his son for his dad to fill out and return to the police. 

A Ridgecrest North resident Sept. 2 reported their Kia sustained damage to a driver’s side rear window but nothing was stolen. Police spoke with other residents on Ridgecrest East, North and West who also incurred criminal mischief to their vehicles. 

A Dobbs Terrace woman Sept. 2 reported her Toyota was vandalized overnight by an unknown party. Her passenger side window was broken. Nothing was reported stolen. Similar incidents were reported by other Dobbs Terrace residents as well as residents of Park Road, Chesterfield and Fenimore Roads.  

A Brite Avenue woman Sept. 2 reported her BMW was vandalized and her car windows broken overnight. A similar incident was reported by a caller on Kingston Road who said $60 in cash and gum and candy were taken from her car. 

Blackmail-type of threats 

A Penn Road resident Sept. 3 came to headquarters to report they received a disturbing email threatening to expose explicit videos if they didn’t pay someone some money. The reporting party said no such videos exist. She was informed this is a typical phishing scam and advised to block that email. A report was made for documentation only. 

Banned from the library 

Library staff contacted police Sept. 3 about a patron they want banned from the premises. The person in question was told they cannot be inside the library for three months. 

Theft might be attributed to juveniles 

A larceny believed to have taken place in the past was reported Sept. 3 by a Wildwood Road resident who told police that miscellaneous men’s clothing and two items valued together at nearly $100,000 was stolen from their home. Police are investigating and say juveniles are involved. 

Didn’t know her license is suspended 

A Mount Vernon woman, 60, was charged Sept. 4 with driving with a suspended registration and failure to use her turn signal. An officer on patrol on Weaver Street near Crossway pulled her over in the vicinity of Heathcote and Brookby Road. She said she was unaware her license was suspended. License plates were removed from the car and held for safekeeping and she received two summonses. 

Elusive homeless man 

A property manager Sept. 4 reported a man possibly living in a parking garage on Popham Road. Police spoke with a parking attendant who said he was unaware of anyone living on the premises. The property manager called back the next day with the same complaint. This time police located the man and told him he couldn’t sleep in the garage. He declined assistance and left the area. 

Young thieves 

Two juvenile males from the Bronx were arrested Sept. 5, charged with petty larceny; their victim is a Scarsdale resident, male, 63. The incident, which involves a package reputedly taken from a residence, happened on Thies Court. The value of the stolen property is $7.58. Two Scarsdale police detectives Sept. 5 responded to the Greenburgh Town Court to take custody of the defendants. Both kids are set to appear in Scarsdale court Sept. 18. 

Mom concerned about son 

A caller Sept. 5 reported her son sent her concerning texts and wasn’t answering his phone. When she gave her location, police guided her to Greenburgh police. She called back later to say she was in contact with her son. 

Forged checks 

Forgery, grand larceny, and petty larceny were reported Sept. 5 from a professional office on Chase Road. The suspect is unknown. The thefts are believed to have happened between Aug. 7 and Sept. 5. Police are investigating. 

A Drake Road resident, 81, Sept. 5 reported about $21,000 cash was stolen from a charitable organization via multiple forged checks. The organization is, at this time, at a financial loss. 

Thinks someone is inside the house 

A caller Sept. 6 on Brewster Road called police to say she thought there was an intruder inside her house. She said she was hiding in an upstairs bedroom with her kids. The hour was early. Police arrived and she said it was a false alarm and that one of her kids, who she thought was asleep upstairs, was awake and downstairs making noise. 

Unwanted patron

An unwanted party who hangs out in a store on Depot Place was advised by the police Sept. 6 they either have to buy something or leave the business. The person said they were waiting for someone and would be leaving shortly. 

Violent squatter 

A Yonkers man, 47, was arrested Sept. 6, charged with criminal trespass. Police cautioned the man has violent tendencies and committed an act of unprovoked violence. Police say he entered an unoccupied home currently for sale on Parkfield Road through a rear door. A real estate agent suggested to police he might be living there. Police entered the residence and took the man into custody for trespassing. 

Obscene gestures 

A Post Road resident Sept. 6 reported a woman who shows up at her home and stands in the driveway making obscene gestures. She described the person as elderly with a white ponytail wearing white jeans and walking two dogs. Police looked for the woman without result. 

Bye bye, guy 

A homeless man was reported Sept. 6 yelling at pedestrians on Depot Plaza. Police helped him get on the next train. 

Locked out 

A caller Sept. 7 reported she was locked out of her home on Wildwood Road. She inferred someone deliberately locked her out. The fire department arrived and quickly were able to gain entry. No further action was required. 

Dead bird 

A caller Sept. 8 reported an injured bird on Mamaroneck Road. On police arrival, the bird was deceased. 

Fire in the attic 

Police assisted firefighters and other emergency responders Sept. 8 to a home reported on fire on Popham Road. On arrival, all residents were out of the house. Scarsdale fire personnel extinguished the fire, which was found in the attic. The fire is believed to have started after a tree fell in the front yard, taking out the electrical service to the home. No injuries were reported. 

Activated smoke alarm 

Firefighters responded to an activated smoke alarm Sept. 8 at a home on Jefferson Road. The occupants said they were working on a glue project in the basement which activated the alarm. Firefighters advised they use more caution and ventilate the area before using glue. 

Two-car collision, one person injured 

One person was reported injured Sept. 8 in a two-car collision at Post Road and Crane. One driver complained of hip pain and was transported by ambulance to the White Plains emergency room. —Eve Marx.
