On Tuesday evening, a crowd of some 25 people gathered in the Scarsdale Public Library after closing hours. They milled around, awaiting the results of the town election for mayor and three soon-to-be-vacated trustee positions. At 9:30 p.m., Village Clerk Taylor Emanuel emerged from the Scott Room, where voters had cast their ballots, and announced the results: Mayoral candidate Justin Arest (who is also Scarsdale’s current mayor) was re-elected with 280 votes. Trustee candidate David Goldschmidt received 278 votes, trustee candidate Dara Gruenberg was re-elected with 288 votes, and trustee candidate Jason Kofman garnered 290 votes. Those present for the tally, who ranged from various community advocates to Representative George Latimer, offered their hearty congratulations.
Representative George Latimer (with the Insider’s Deborah Skolnik) was on hand for the festive occasion.
Mayor Arest, who will begin a new term, praised all who cast a ballot. “Personally, I think it's always important for people to exercise their their ability to vote, it’s one of the important [rights] that we have as Americans,” he said. “Hopefully, [the election results] show that people are generally happy with what they have.” Arest said he looks forward not only to continuing on with the great work the Board has done over the last two years, but to keep building upon the work of all past Boards, “just continuing trying to make Scarsdale even greater.”
Gruenberg, who currently serves as Scarsdale’s deputy mayor, looks forward to pressing on with Scarsdale’s large-scale projects, including the reincarnation of the Scarsdale Pool and the state of the town’s fields. “We are also continuing to improve communications,” she added. “I feel like we can always do that better. I I love it when residents give us feedback on our communication and we can pivot. I like problem-solving. and I like when residents come to me with issues and if I’m able to help them or connect them to the right place.” As Arest did, she expressed her gratitude for the residents who turned out to vote despite the uncontested slate. “I’ve been been feeling the community support,” she said.
