How are these properties about to change?

A look at the projects the Board of Architectural Review approved.

BY DEBORAH SKOLNIK

On Monday, the Board of Architectural Review met. Its goal: to decide whether proposed alterations to properties around town should be approved. For each hearing, a representative for the property in question walked the BAR through the desired changes. The Insider was able to attend most of the meeting, during which the following projects were weighed.

2 Cooper Road

Although this manse is new, the property representative requested to alter its windows, light posts, and pavers. RESULT: APPROVED

Pretty and pricey  The home’s asking price is $7.5 million.

7 Old Lyme Road
The residents of this home want put in a pergola. “We're not touching the square footage of our backyard,” the owner said. “ We're just putting a pergola over our stone [which spans from] the back part of our house onto the grass.” RESULT: APPROVED

Just a small ask  The homeowners would like to put a pergola in their backyard.

140 Christie Place

A rep for the previously named Amici Dei Vini Wine and Spirits store in downtown Scarsdale asked to switch awnings to reflect its new name, Scarsdale Wines and Spirits. (The business ran afoul of a winery in California with nearly the same name.)

“Your street visibility is limited by those trees [in front of the store]…If you want to be more visible, don’t go with green,” warned BAR member Marsha Morton. “It wasn’t entirely my call,” the rep replied, adding that the color matches the scheme of the store’s interior. RESULT: APPROVED

39 Aspen Road

The proposed changes to this home—a two-story addition and deck—were the most discussed ones of the evening. “We are adding a full second story and a partial addition on the right side,” the rep said. “[We are also] widening the footprint a little bit, as well as the rear, creating an L shape with a deck and patio in the middle.” The door would be re-framed and the house re-sided in grey, with white trim and white windows.

Morton stated that the proposed changes seemed to go well beyond a second-story addition. She and other board members took issue with the garage, particularly its gable, which they said seemed steep and jarring. RESULT: HELD OVER

A problematic garage The BAR felt the gable was too steep.

56 Drake Road

The owners are planning an addition. “The [front] addition is to bring the garage more forward, make it more functional…the rear addition is a two-story addition,” the rep explained.” The house will be painted grey with white trim. The porch and the right side of the house will remain. “So it’s really the garage, the room over it, and the kitchen and back,” the rep said. RESULT: APPROVED

Does it add up? Renderings of the enlarged home.

57 Franklin Road

In late June, the BAR approved drawings pertaining to exterior revisions of this home. The new request was to add two more dormers to the design. RESULT: APPROVED

More dormers  The owners requested a modification to previously approved renovation drawings.
