Large leaf piles obstruct traffic, strange noises, and two pedestrians struck by cars

Incident Insider: Scarsdale Police Reports Dec. 3-Dec. 8, 2024

Found laptop 

A person walked into headquarters Dec. 3 to turn in a laptop they found in Depot Plaza. Police vouchered it and are waiting for its owner to claim it.  

Who’s at the door—or inside? A woman reported a strange noise coming from her Ring camera.

Strange noise from Ring camera 

A Brookline Road resident Dec. 3 reported her door chime “went off” and shared her concern someone might have entered her home. She told police she heard “a strange noise” on her Ring camera. Police came around and checked both the exterior of her home and the interior but found nothing suspicious. 


Her left foot 

A woman, 74, told police she was run over by a car Dec. 4 on Church Lane. She said she was walking behind her car in the church parking lot when a gray Chevy Malibu backing out of a parking space ran over her left foot. The driver lamely protested she didn’t have her wallet on her and drove off. The reporting party declined medical attention. 

Carstruck An elderly man was taken to the hospital after being hit by an automobile in Scarsdale Village.

Man run over by car 

Another pedestrian, male, 74, was struck by a car on Harwood Court and Spencer Place Dec. 4. A witness called it in. The driver said the pedestrian “came out of nowhere.” He said he was waving his hands in the air to get her to stop but she didn’t. He fell to the ground. All involved parties were on scene when police arrived. The man was transported to the hospital via ambulance for unknown injuries.  

Large leaf pile causes traffic obstruction 

A large leaf pile was reported blocking a lane of traffic Dec. 3 on Paddington Road. Police observed it extended 8 feet into the roadway and was approximately 20 feet long. The highway department was notified and pictures were taken. Attempts to make contact with the responsible party were unsuccessful. 

Grand larceny 

A Wykoff, NJ man, 32, is wanted on suspicion of grand larceny; his victim is the owner of a business on Depot Place. On Dec. 4 the business owner told police this person fraudulently purchased a number of items from their store. A report was made for documentation and police are investigating. 

Hey vandals, leave those cars alone! The rear window of a housekeeper’s auto was broken by a lawless mischief-maker.

Housekeeper’s car damaged 

Criminal mischief was reported Dec. 5 on Farley Road. The caller reported her housekeeper’s car was damaged, the rear window broken from a significant impact. The housekeeper told police nothing was taken from her car.  

Little black dog on the loose 

A small black dog was reported Dec. 5 off leash and running in the roadway at Claremont Road and Walworth Avenue. Police were unable to locate. 

Greasy oven 

Police and fire personnel Dec. 5 went to a commercial location on Huntington Avenue after a greasy oven being used during a craft cooking class created a smoke condition. On police arrival the oven had been turned off. Firefighters opened some windows. Nobody was hurt. 

No idling 

A caller on Brumbach Road Dec. 6 complained about a car running for 45 minutes. Police on arrival saw the car parked in a driveway with the engine running. The operator said he had an issue with his battery and was letting it run so it didn’t die and he could get to work. He was advised of the idling law and said he would be leaving shortly. 

Lady, move your car 

A caller Dec. 6 at Oak Lane and Cohawney Road reported a green minivan blocking traffic and violating a three hour limit parking zone. Police on arrival thought the issue was the van was parked more than 12” from the curb. They spoke with the homeowner at the location who said the van belongs to her housekeeper who moved the car. 

Forgot the contractor was coming 

A Richbell Road caller Dec. 7 reported two people walking on her property. The caller said they were not at home. Police arrived and spoke with her contractor. She confirmed the man was her contractor and no further action was taken. 

Homeless man assisted 

A property manager on Harwood Court Dec. 7 requested assistance with a homeless man who had taken up temporary residence within the building. The man was compliant and calm when approached by police and agreed to be transported to a shelter in New Rochelle. Social services were notified to contact this individual. 

Child locked inside running car 

Emergency personnel went to a home on Rock Creek Lane Dec. 7 after a young child was reported locked inside a car with the engine running. The child was in the rear of the car sitting in a child safety seat. Forced entry was about to be attempted but was abandoned after the child hit the unlock button to the rear door and the parents were able to get in. 

Valid permit 

A Fox Meadow Road resident Dec. 7 complained to police about a solicitor at her door. Police arrived. The solicitor, who said they represented a well-known charity often soliciting in the area, was unable to show a valid permit to solicit. Their supervisor was contacted and insisted this person had a valid permit and became belligerent and aggressive with the police when questioned. They were told to make sure a physical permit was on every solicitor sent to the area and no further action was taken. 

Door knocker raises suspicion 

A Brite Avenue resident Dec. 8 said an unknown man wearing a reflective jacket in his 30’s was knocking at his door. Police looked for him without result. 

Bye bye, bike A broken bike was mistaken for a lost one.

That bike is trash

A Sage Terrace caller Dec. 8 reported a child’s bicycle left in the area. The owner of the bike said it was broken and was left out for collection by sanitation.
