Man collecting cans makes caller anxious 

A man collecting bottles and putting them in a large black plastic bag was reported March 31 by a resident on Brown Road. Police didn’t find him. 

Kids so bored they’re throwing things 

A caller March 31 reported youths throwing things off the Heathcote Road overpass at vehicles. Police didn’t see them. 

Jump start 

A Mamaroneck Road caller April 1 asked police for assistance as they couldn’t start their car. Duty tow arrived and jump started the battery. 

Musician demands payment for services rendered 

A Church Lane caller April 1 complained about a man they don’t know who is bugging them about money. The caller said they were first contacted by this individual who was asking to be paid for musical services rendered for a church function in November 2024. She told police she was unable to verify whether or not she’d made payment through a Venmo account. She said the man was becoming increasingly insistent. Police advised that she contact them through the non-emergency line if he shows up as promised. 

Dog ate rat poison 

Police returned to Church Lane April 1 about a half hour later when a resident said her dog ate rat poison put out by a tennis club just behind her house. She rushed the dog to her vet and spoke with a gardener at the club. Police suggested she make contact with the club management about this civil matter. 

Car service driver screwed out of money 

A driver for a car service April 2 reported a woman he’d given a ride from JFK airport to her home on South Church Lane said she was paying him via Zelle but she never sent the payment and now she wasn’t answering the door. He said he is out $269.28 for the ride. The driver said he only wanted to have the incident documented at this time. 

Just wants to be paid for services rendered 

A caller on Church Lane April 2 reported a man hanging out behind the church asking for money. Police spoke with him and he said he was trying to collect payment for music he’d played at the church last November. It turned out he was the guy bothering the caller earlier about her Venmo payment. She ended up writing him a check to resolve the matter. 

Homeowner/contractor disagreement 

A homeowner and a contractor got into it April 2 at a Drake Road address. They argued about a renovation in progress. The homeowner wanted the contractor to stop working and leave. The contractor said he would leave after he’d removed all his equipment. Police remained on scene until this mission was accomplished. 

Lurking non-consumers arouse suspicion 

A Heathcote Road caller April 2 reported two men who came into his business at different times who both acted suspiciously, not buying anything, just lurking around. One man was in his 20’s, the other in his 30’s. The reporting party said they didn’t commit a crime, nor did he ask them to leave. Police said they’d drive by the establishment a few more times. 

Fake $100 bill 

Counterfeit currency was reported April 3. A fake $100 was reported received at the Village Hall. The incident, as they say, is under investigation. 

Never a tenant thinks they’re entitled to compensation 

A Swarthmore Road resident April 3 reported a dispute with a future tenant who is now sending her disturbing texts and leaving messages. The tenant appears to be under the misconception they are entitled to some kind of compensation just for applying for the apartment. The landlord wanted the incident documented at this time. 

Who is a budding pyro? 

A custodian at a school on Palmer Avenue April 4 reported burnt paint cans and other debris were found on school property by Fayette Road. A report was made for documentation. 

Porch pirates at it again 

Petty larceny was reported April 3 by a resident of Drake Road who said someone stole packages from her front porch. Information regarding the contents of the missing packages was not included in the report. 

Gift cards stolen from student book bag 

A parent on Clarence Road April 4 told police gift cards valued at $500 were stolen from her child’s school bag. The bag was in a locker during a sports practice. The child told her coach and a school administrator. Both mother and daughter said nothing of significance was stolen and a report was made for documentation only. 

Grandfather loses track of gallivanting young child 

A caller April 4 said his son got lost from his grandfather at the Greenacres park and was gone for about 20 minutes. Prior to police arrival, the child was located. He said he went to a friend’s house. His father said he was fine and they no longer needed police assistance.  

Collided with a store window 

A driver backing out of a parking space April 5 on Scarsdale Avenue told police she thought her gear was in reverse but it was still in drive. She attempted to hit the brakes but it was too late and she collided with a store window causing it to crack. Her car wasn’t damaged and she wasn’t hurt. 

Caller thinks someone needs to take a shower 

A caller on East Parkway April 6 reported a person who looked like they could use a shower. Police saw numerous individuals on the MTA bridge but none of them were immediately identifiable as needing to bathe.
