Incident Insider: Scarsdale Police Report March 3-March 10, 2025

Very responsible housekeeper
A Birchall Drive housekeeper called the police March 3 to say the homeowner was away and she left the alarm on when she left the home on Friday but it was off when she returned Monday. She asked the police to check the home, which they did. All appeared in good order.
Not your taste in music? Call the cops
A caller March 3 on Carthage Road complained that a construction crew operating in the area was playing music very loudly which they didn’t like. Police came around and didn’t hear any music. They spoke to the foreman and advised him of the complaint.
Shirtless man
A Haverford Avenue caller reached out to police late at night on March 3 to say a shirtless man was in his yard attempting to enter his residence.
Late night burglary results in an arrest
A Penn Boulevard resident late at night on March 3 reported her burglar alarm was activated. County police and Scarsdale police arrived and a man, 46 from Mamaroneck, was arrested on scene. He was eventually released to the county jail to be held without bail, charged with felony burglary, criminal mischief and resisting arrest as well as unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal possession of stolen property. Prior to his being booked at Scarsdale headquarters, he was transported to White Plains Hospital ER for evaluation as his appearance was disorderly and he seemed frankly out of it. Details regarding the incident were not revealed as the incident remains under investigation.
Intoxicated speeder
A Nyack man, 41, was arrested March 6 charged with speeding on Post Road. He was also intoxicated. Police saw him speeding before pulling him over. When it became obvious he was under the influence, he was arrested and brought to headquarters for processing. He was released on his own recognizance with a summons to appear in court March 26.
Parked too long
A caller on Dolma Road March 4 reported a gray Cadillac SUV parked for what seemed to be a long time. Police checking said the vehicle was unoccupied and legally parked.
Dog reunited with its owner
A South Church Lane resident told police March 4 they found a Golden retriever in their yard. The dog was brought to headquarters and reunited with its owner.
Loud music reported
A Catherine Road caller March 4 reported loud music in the area. Police responding didn’t hear it.
Wildlife
A caller on Stonehouse Road March 4 reported a squirrel seemingly stuck in a power line. Police responding saw the squirrel perched atop a utility pole. It didn’t seem in danger or injured.
Fun with mopeds
Two mopeds were reported March 4 riding on peoples’ lawns on Taunton Road. An officer responding saw an e-bike heading west on Crane Road and then south on East Parkway. They lost sight of the bike around Christie Place. No lawns were reported damaged.
Authorized personnel or trespassers?
An Ogden Road caller March 5 reported multiple people on his construction site and was unsure if they were authorized personnel or trespassers. Police on arrival saw no one and when they tried to contact the caller, that person didn’t answer. Nothing appeared out of order. No further action was taken.
Walk on
A caller March 5 reported a man walking on the bypass by Weaver Street. He was described as wearing dark clothing. Police made contact and the man said he was walking to New Rochelle. He declined an offer to call a taxi. Police reminded him to stay on sidewalks as it was after dark.
Didn’t show up for her piano lesson
A person came into headquarters March 6 to say their daughter, age 9, was supposed to show up at her piano lesson in Scarsdale in the company of her nanny but never arrived. Police tracked the vehicle which was heading into Eastchester where the family lives. That department was notified. The parents called to say child and nanny were safe at home.
Threatening texts
A Springdale Road woman March 7 told police her husband has been receiving threatening extortion-style texts and if he didn't cough up the dough, an enforcer would be coming to their home. Police told her this is a scam. The caller was advised to block the number of the threatening texter and police assured additional drive bys.
Could be kids playing pranks
An Edgewood Road caller March 7 reported someone aggressively banging on her door. When police arrived, she told them she thought it was neighborhood kids playing pranks.
It’s dead, not injured
A dead animal was found on the side of the road at Mamaroneck Avenue and Myrtledale Road March 7 after a concerned caller reported it injured. The highway department was notified for removal.
Mistook the gas for the brake
An 81-year-old driver March 7 driving a Chevrolet Suburban on Scarsdale Avenue near Popham Road struck a railing of a business while attempting to pull out of a parking spot. They also hit a parking meter. They told police they thought they were stepping on the brake but instead pressed on the accelerator. Ambulance, police and firefighters were on scene but the driver wasn’t injured. The car was towed.
Unknown dog makes itself at home
A Lebanon Road resident March 7 reported a dog was in her backyard that wasn’t hers. Police found the owner who retrieved their dog at headquarters. A ticket was issued for having a dog at large.
Can I sleep here?
A Varian Lane caller March 8 told police an unfamiliar man driving a silver pick up truck with the word “Quest” emblazoned on it via decal showed up at their door and requested they sleep there for the night. When turned down, the man got back in his car and left. Police looked for him without result.
Is that rope for hanging?
A caller on Heathcote Road March 8 reported a length of rope hanging from a tree that they found suspicious. Police on arrival say the rope was old and very frayed and not creating a hazardous condition.
Naughty child locks herself in a bedroom, terrifying grandmother
A grandmother on Greenacres Avenue told police March 9 her toddler grandchild had locked herself in a bedroom. Police arrived and opened the door. The child was fine and no further assistance was needed.
Grand theft larceny
A Brite Avenue resident March 9 reported jewelry was stolen from her residence. Police say the theft is felony level. Details of what was stolen were not provided; suffice to say at least 22 items were taken within the last week. Police are investigating.
