Possible floating body
Police were alerted by Eastchester police Jan. 24 about a possible body floating in the Bronx River between the Crestwood and Scarsdale stations. Police went to the river to check but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
Burned food brings firefighters to the house
Firefighters went to a home on Tunstall Road Jan. 20 when a smoke alarm inside was activated. On their arrival, the resident said they’d burnt food while cooking and there was no fire.
Smoky taste A resident burned some food, sending firefighters flying to the resident’s home.
Blocked driveway
A caller on Cohawney Road Jan. 20 reported a red SUV parked and blocking her driveway. Police arrived, saw the SUV was partially blocking the driveway; the operator was found and said he would move it.
Nothing suspicious
A caller Jan. 20 reported a vehicle with Colorado plates idling at Drake and Jefferson, which they thought was suspicious. Police located the vehicle, said it was not idling nor was it occupied by either passengers or an operator and that it was legally parked. No further action was taken.
Homeless man declines assistance
A Harwood Court caller Jan. 20 expressed concerns for a homeless man he’d asked police to vacate the area. Now he was worried about the man’s well-being since the temperature turned frigid. Police said they couldn’t find him. The next day, a caller reported a homeless man in the vicinity of Hickory Lane and Butler Road who might be freezing. Police couldn’t find him. Close to midnight on Jan. 21 a Harwood Court caller said there was a man sleeping in the entryway of their building. Police made contact and the man said he would be moving along; he rejected assistance from police officers.
Coyote alert
A teacher at the school on Brewster Road reported Jan. 22 reported there was a coyote in the vicinity of Brite and Butler Road. Police looked for the animal without result.
Stay-just-a-little-while-y coyote. The scary animal was sighted in the ‘Dale, but left before police could locate it.
Not passed out but catching a little shut-eye
A caller Jan. 23 reported two men passed out inside a black Honda with CT plates in the 7-11 parking lot on Scarsdale Road. Police spoke with the operator who was awake and said they were picking up an order from UberEats and would soon be leaving.
Not safe to skate
A caller Jan. 23 reported people skating on the frozen library pond at Brewster Road and Olmsted Road. Police said it was one person. When they were told there was no skating allowed, they left the area.
On thin ice Police issued a warning to someone skating on the frozen library pond (but declined to throw the book at them).
Unlocked car entered
A Tisdale Road caller Jan. 24 said two people rang her doorbell and then checked the door handles on cars parked in her driveway. One car was unlocked and was entered by one of the men. Nothing was taken. The caller mentioned they’d seen a white car with NY plates near her home earlier and thinks it might have been connected.
Wrong address
A caller on Tompkins Road Jan. 25 said a Con Ed employee came to her door and said they had an appointment to inspect the gas pipes. The caller said they’d never made this appointment. Police located the worker who said they’d mistakenly gone to the wrong address.
“Do you speak Russian?”
A Boulevard caller Jan. 25 said two men came to her door and asked her if she speaks Russian. She closed the door on them and they left. Police were requested to come by and look at her her Ring doorbell footage.
Sleepy passenger
An Uber driver Jan. 26 asked police for assistance with a woman asleep in the back of their car. It was 3 o’clock in the morning. By the time police arrived, the driver said the woman woke up and went safely inside her home.
Safe to skate
Children were reported skating on the pond Jan. 26 at Duck Pond Road and Heathcote Road. The caller was concerned the pond was sufficiently frozen. Police said they’d been observing skaters all day and didn’t think there was a problem.
Bold coyote alarms caller
A caller Jan. 26 reported a bold coyote who didn’t run off when she approached it at the intersection of Swarthmore and Haverford Road. Police went to the area but said the coyote was gone.
Tetchy neighbor’s request honored
A caller Jan. 26 complained about the sound of a ball bouncing at a nearby residence on Crane Road that was annoying them. Police went to the location and spoke to a mom who said her son was bouncing a ball in their yard. He was asked to stop as it was late in the evening and did as requested.
Don’t have yourself a ball, kid A neighbor complained about a ball-bouncing child.
Injured in a collision
One person was injured Jan. 24 in a one car collision at Weaver Street and Stratton Road. A driver heading east on Stratton Road in New Rochelle made a left hand turn at the green traffic light on Weaver in Scarsdale to travel northbound. The driver said when he applied his brakes, he skidded and crashed into a tree. The 2021 Jeep Suburban was towed and the man, 27 from New Rochelle, was transported via ambulance to the hospital for injuries.
Loud generator in violation
A generator was reported Jan. 22 to be in violation of noise ordinances at a home on Burgess Road. The reporting party said it was running and making undue noise for an hour between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. A summons was issued and the operator scheduled to appear in court Feb. 5.
Speeder caught in the act
A White Plains woman, 30, was charged Jan. 25 with aggravated unlicensed registration and speeding. Police saw her during a traffic enforcement at Post Road and Huntington Avenue. A traffic stop was conducted and she presented a NY driver’s license that showed a suspended status. She was given two summonses.
Tickets were issued
An Ossining man, 22, was charged Jan. 25 with driving without a valid license, aggravated unlicensed operation and operating a car while using an electronic device. Police say he was issued multiple summonses during a traffic enforcement they were conducting in the area.
