Incident Insider: Scarsdale Police Report Feb. 1- Feb. 16, 2025

Open garage door concerns neighbor 

An Oak Lane resident Feb. 10 requested that police check on her neighbor’s home; she knew her neighbor was away but saw the garage door open. Police found an unlocked basement door but no signs of forced entry. 

Dog went home 

A caller Feb. 10 reported a small white dog running on Brite Avenue. Prior to police arrival, the dog was reunited with its owner. 

No license to lie The police weren’t fooled when a man said he didn’t know his license had been suspended.

Man pretends not to know his driver’s license was suspended 

A Scarsdale man, 33, was ticketed Feb. 10 at Sprague and Nelson Roads for aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign. A traffic stop was initiated and the DMV verified a suspended status which the man feigned to have no knowledge of. Two summonses were issued. 

Wow, that is low 

A business owner on East Parkway Feb. 10 told police an unknown person stole the tip jar at the business. A young employee discovered the theft. Police are investigating. 

Hot tip Someone stole a shop’s tip jar.

Pulled over 

A Scarsdale woman, 34, Feb. 10 was pulled over at Post and Popham and issued a ticket for driving with a suspended registration. The car was towed. 

Dispute over wages 

A caller on Scarsdale Avenue Feb. 11 told police they argued with someone working at the location about financial reimbursement. Police said the two worked it out before an officer arrived. 

Fido unleashed An untethered dog raised one resident’s concern.

Leash law 

A caller Feb. 13 reported an unleashed dog was roaming on Roosevelt Place. Police arrived at the location and saw numerous leashed dogs but no unleashed ones. A crossing guard at the location said they knew which dog was reported. The officer asked the crossing guard to relay the information to its owner the dog must be on leash. 

Tracking ’em down No one saw the thief who attempted to steal a resident’s tires.

Tire thief 

A caller on East Parkway Feb. 14 told police someone attempted to steal his tires and he was now at a dealership. He told police two days earlier while leaving his job in the Bronx he discovered multiple wheel locks were missing from his rear tires. One tire was damaged. He was unsure if this happened in the Bronx or when the vehicle was parked on Freightway in Scarsdale. Video surveillance inside the garage came up negative. He was advised to make a report with the NYPD. 

Unruly teens 

A business owner on East Parkway Feb. 14 reported a pair of unruly teenagers who didn’t leave when asked. As soon as the police arrived, the pair left. 

Flaky driver. Police found a car stuck in a snowbank—and then discovered the car was unregistered and had improper plates.

Bad luck, buddy

A Bridgeport man, 36, was issued multiple tickets Feb. 14 after police saw his car on Secor Road, stuck on a snowbank. The operator was issued summonses for improper plates and driving an unregistered car. The officer also noticed the vehicle registration was registered to an entirely different car. Multiple attempts were made to help the driver extricate the car with negative results and a tow was called. 

Speeders do get caught 

A Yonkers man, 23, was issued tickets on Feb 14 for aggravated unlicensed operation and speeding. A traffic stop was conducted at Post and Edgewood.  

A heavy situation at home 

A Scarsdale man walked into headquarters Feb. 16 to talk to police about his son. He described an alarming incident that recently occurred at their home. The father requested minimal police presence at his residence in response and was told that might not be possible due to departmental procedures and officer safety. No further information was provided. 

That’s cold Instead of chilling out when a storekeeper told them they couldn’t buy cigarettes, a group of teens threw snowballs at the door and windows of the business.

Rude kids causing trouble 

A business owner on Scarsdale Avenue Feb. 16 told police about a group of teens who entered the premises and attempted to purchase cigarettes with fake ID’s. When asked to leave, they threw snowballs at the door and windows of the business. The kids hightailed it out of there before police arrived.
