Scavenging? There’s a local law against it

A caller on Overhill Road complained April 14 about someone picking up cans and following a sanitation truck. Police made contact with the sanitation driver who pointed out the man who was warned against scavenging. An officer provided him with information from the county on what steps to take while seeking career employment. 

Suspicious man on the premises 

A Hutchinson Avenue resident April 14 told police his Ring camera picked up someone on his property who shouldn’t be there. This person was wearing a reflective shirt but no other identifiers. Police noted there was no damage to the property and said they’d do additional drive bys. 

An odor of gas 

A Ridgecrest West resident April 14 mentioned smelling gas behind her clothes dryer. The fire department was notified. 

Tree limb reported down and causing trouble 

A mail carrier notified police April 14 of a tree limb that knocked down power lines on Dickel Road. It also struck a utility pole. Police arrived and put caution tape around the area and both the highway department and utility were notified. 

Wallet lost and found 

A Drake Road resident came to headquarters April 15 to say they’d lost their wallet and everything in it. He told police where he thought he’d lost it and said he’d cancelled all his cards. Paperwork was issued to him to obtain a new driver’s license. 

Woman in a white SUV 

A caller April 16 on Woodland Place reported a woman in a white SUV parking where she shouldn’t be. Police arrived and spoke to the operator who appeared to be looking for something in her rear seats. She was advised of the No Standing zone she was parked in and said she would leave as soon as she found her misplaced item. 

Got off at the wrong bus stop 

A caller April 16 at Post and Popham reported a man they thought might need assistance. He told police he got off at the wrong bus stop and was heading to White Plains. He said he didn’t need any help and the police left him to it. 

Sent money by mistake 

A River Road caller April 16 told police he’d accidentally sent someone money through Zelle and it was a mistake as he was no longer texting with this person. He was told to contact his bank, not the police, to deal with the matter as no crime was committed.

Unauthorized phone account opened 

Police are investigating a case of identity theft reported April 19 by a Benedict Road resident who told police an unknown individual opened an unauthorized account with AT&T and opened a phone line without his knowledge or permission. 

Speeding and other motor vehicle violations 

A Bronx lady, 31, said to be about 5’4” and weighing approximately 180 lbs., was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle April 20; police say she is also unlicensed and was speeding in a marked zone. She was stopped at Tompkins Road and Fenimore and issued multiple citations. 

Pedestrian injured 

A pedestrian was injured April 15 when he was struck by a pickup truck backing out of an alley on Ramsey Road. The driver said they heard yelling which prompted them to stop backing up. The pedestrian, from Elmsford, complained of pain and was transported to Westchester Medical Center. 

Dog dropped off at the wrong home 

A Popham Lane caller April 18 told police he woke up to find a dog in his dining room. He said a blue Volvo pulled into his driveway an hour before and believes the dog was accidentally dropped off at his house as also left were the dog’s bed, its leash and its toys. Using information found on the dog’s collar, its veterinarian was contacted and an officer brought the dog and its belongings temporarily to headquarters. A dog sitter was contacted who confirmed the dog was dropped at the wrong house and came to get it. 

Keep the kids indoors lest they disturb the neighbors 

Loud music was reported in the late morning on April 18,  said to be coming from a residence on Sycamore Road. Patrol only heard birds cheeping and the sound of passing traffic and declared the call unfounded.  The caller tried again the next day with a similar complaint. Police went to the home and spoke with a children’s nanny who said the kids had just been playing outside. She was advised of the complaint.
