Mikado Sushi, which has five NYC outposts, will move into the Hartsdale storefront next year.

The sushi experts at Mikado, a small chain based in Manhattan and the boroughs, are planning a trip upstate. Their next stop? Hartsdale.

Last week, the Insider reported that Enrico’s Pastry Shop would end its 17-year run. In an announcement posted in the store window and on social media, the bakery shared that a new restaurant, Mikado Sushi, will be moving into the storefront near the Hartsdale Metro North station. It will be the first Japanese restaurant in the Hartsdale Village downtown strip since acclaimed Azuma Sushi closed its doors in 2021 after a 38-year run.

Mikado offers dine-in and carry-out service, and is known for its hand rolls, cooked entrees, and craft drinks. In an interview with the Insider, general manager Steven Lin shared that the chain is particularly excited to open in Hartsdale, which will follow their five existing locations in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. “This is our first location outside of the city…so we would love the community to support our opening,” he said.

Good looks  Mikado's general manager says the Hartsdale restaurant will resemble its locations in Chelsea (above) and the Financial District.

While Lin and Mikado are excited to make a splash in Hartsdale, the restaurant and hungry residents will need to wait up to six months before the storefront is up and running again. Enrico’s will continue to operate until December 24, and Mikado plans to take over the site starting in January. When they move in, Lin says they will renovate and update the interior design and layout. Once the renovations are complete, Lin expects the Hartsdale restaurant to closely resemble its Financial District and Chelsea restaurants. If all goes according to plan, Mikado plans to be open for business in May 2025.

When asked why Hartsdale is the best fit for Mikado’s first expansion upstate, Lin explained that many Scarsdale and Hartsdale residents already visit the city locations. With a convenient space right off of the train, the restaurant will bring Mikado’s food closer to home for these loyal sushi lovers.
