Move it, Mr. Softee
A caller on Post Road Sept. 30 complained about a Mr. Softee ice cream truck they said was parked on double yellow lines, selling ice cream. Police found the operator was parked in a No Parking zone; they asked him to move the truck but not stop selling frozen treats.
Unwanted suitor
A caller on Ridgecrest North Sept. 30 told police she continues to receive unwanted messages from a former suitor. She advised that police made contact with him a year ago to warn him about texting her. This time she asked for assistance in composing an email telling him to stay away. A report was made for documentation purposes only.
Don’t sit here
An Overhill Road caller Oct. 1 reported a suspicious man dressed entirely in black behind a restaurant. When police contacted him, he said he was just sitting down and would be leaving the area shortly, which he did, without incident. About an hour later a caller on Freightway reported the same man. They said he was on the second-floor stairwell of the parking garage. Police found him and said he couldn’t sit on the stairs as he was blocking pedestrian traffic. He left without incident.
It’s just an Uber
A caller on Brite Avenue Oct. 1 complained about a car parked outside her home for an extended period of time. Police arrived and spoke with the operator who said he worked for Uber and was waiting for his passenger. A Brewster Road caller the next night reported the same thing. This time it was also an Uber driver waiting to pick up a client.
Marital discord
A caller on Edgewood Road Oct. 2 said his wife was banging on the door outside their home. He said the door was open but she wouldn’t come in. Police arrived and both parties said there’d been a misunderstanding and didn't need their assistance.
Were they trying to break into cars?
A caller on Woods Lane Oct. 2 reported two men he believed were attempting to break into vehicles parked in the area. Police searched for the described parties said to be in two dark colored cars. They couldn’t find them. It didn’t appear any of the cars parked in the Woods Lane vicinity were tampered with.
Elusive older man might be confused
A Popham Road caller Oct. 2 reported a man in his 80’s who appeared to be concussed. He said the man was headed towards the village hall and was wearing brown pants and a blue cap. Police couldn’t find him. Another caller on Post Road less than an hour later reported the man. That caller also described him as confused and disoriented. A village hall employee said she thought she saw him sitting in a gray SUV. Police kept looking for the man but didn’t find him.
Total misunderstanding
A caller on Huntington Avenue Oct. 2 reported a person lying in their own driveway. The caller was concerned the individual might be “suffering from something.” Police arrived and said it was the resident who was painting a picture and there was no problem.
Concerned about elderly woman
A 911 caller Oct. 2 reported an elderly woman wearing a flowered shirt who might be in need of assistance. The woman was walking in the vicinity of Post Road and Edgewood Road. Police found her and she said she was exercising and didn’t need their assistance. Another caller on Post and Popham reported the same woman. Police watched her for a while and she seemed perfectly normal. She responded to the patrol officer’s questions and said she was walking home.
Reported suspicious
Suspicious activity was reported Oct. 3 by a Bradley Road caller who said three men entered their driveway and attempted to break into their cars. When they found the doors were locked they approached the house and tried doors which were also locked. Two of the men were described wearing hoodies. This information was gleaned from surveillance video which was turned over to the police.
Three men wearing dark colored jackets were also reported Oct. 4 on Scarsdale Avenue. When approached by police, they got in a car and left. No suspicious activity was observed.
Yelling kids annoy fussy neighbor
Kids were reported screaming Oct. 5 on Brewster Road. The caller, their neighbor, said they were making unnecessary noise. Police went to the residence and spoke to a parent who said they’d ask the kids to come inside.
Loud Halloween decor disturbs neighbor
A caller on Lyons Road Oct. 5 told police their neighbor’s Halloween decorations were a disturbance. Police on arrival saw an inflatable dragon equipped with a sound machine. The homeowner apologized for not turning it off when they went to bed that night. They turned off the sound machine and no further action was taken.
Teen party
A noisy gathering on Crane Road Oct. 5 brought police to the residence. The homeowner said her teenage daughter was having a party but everyone was about to depart.
Nosy
A caller on Valley Road Oct. 6 reported someone was using her neighbor’s car when she knew her neighbor was away. Police made contact with the homeowner who had just returned from her vacation. She said she was unloading suitcases from her car.
