A tied-up goose, a dog on the loose, and bickering people who won’t call a truce.

Scarsdale police reports Sept. 9-Sept. 15, 2024

Trussed goose 

A caller Sept. 9 reported a goose on Post Road with its legs tied together. Police arrived and saw a flock of geese; one goose’s legs were caught in a fishing line but the bird was able to walk and fly away when the officer approached. No further action was taken. 

Family feud 

A caller on Dunham Road Sept. 9 reported his mother and his brother, 43, were arguing. He said it seemed his brother was being attacked. Police went to the house and observed nothing irregular from the outside. Attempts to converse with the residents were met with negative results. 

Feels threatened 

A caller on Garth Road Sept. 9 expressed anxiety to police about someone who threatened them who is soon to be released from a hospital. She told police the two had argued in the past. A report was made of her concerns but no further action was taken at this time. 

Porch pirate snags shoes, hat 

Police are investigating an incident of petty larceny reported Sept. 9 on Brite Avenue. The victim, a male, 46, said two pairs of shoes valued at $340 and a hat valued at $60 were stolen from packages left by a delivery driver on the caller’s porch. 

Books multiple appointments under fake names 

A caller on Scarsdale Avenue told police Sept. 10 about a client who books appointments under fake names and books lots of appointments. Police told her to stop accepting the bookings and block the client’s number. 

Reckless driving 

A red moped ridden with temporary plates by two men were pursued Sept. 10 by police officers who saw them driving recklessly and then fleeing in the vicinity of Heathcote Road and Morris Lane. The pursuit was terminated when it was deemed hazardous. 

Squatter outed 

Police were dispatched to Depot Place Sept. 10 after it was realized a squatter had taken up illegal residence in a former Metropolitan Transit Authority station house. He was assisted into an ambulance and transported to a hospital while in police custody. Scarsdale police worked with the MTA police to manage the situation. 

Water, water, everywhere 

A water condition was reported Sept. 11 at a home on Stone House Road. On firefighters’ arrival, a broken water feed to the kitchen sink was observed, resulting in cascading water. Firefighters were unable to isolate the pipe so water was shut down to the entire house. The homeowner was advised to call a plumber. 

Tesla driver likes loud music 

A caller Sept. 12 reported someone parked on Post Road in a black Tesla blasting music in a parking lot. Police arrived, saw the described car, but heard no music blasting. 

Tires deflated in apparent act of revenge 

A caller Sept. 12 reported someone deflated his tires while he was parked in the vicinity of Brown Road and Ewart Road. He thinks it’s the work of his neighbor who frequently takes issue with where the caller parks. Police spoke to other neighbors who claimed to have no idea who deflated the tires. The caller was advised to park elsewhere in future. 

Clean the toaster oven

A caller reported flames shooting from a toaster oven Sept. 12 at a home on Harvest Drive. Firefighters observed cooking oil in the bottom pan which may have ignited. The resident was advised to clean the appliance thoroughly before attempting to use it again. 

No soliciting here 

A woman was reported Sept. 13 on Rural Drive soliciting door to door. Police looked for the door knocker but didn’t find her. 

Long haired young man provokes neighbors 

A young man with shoulder length hair was reported by multiple callers Sept. 13 on Boulevard and Rodney and Hamilton Roads. He was described in his 20’s, riding a bicycle; he displayed to one person a large wad of cash he was carrying in his hoodie pocket. He was reported riding around slowly in circles, seeming to be looking at peoples’ houses. Police looked for him but didn’t find him. 

A problem with the oven 

A problem with a self cleaning oven that created a fire hazard condition was reported at a residence Sept. 13 on Washington Avenue. It was determined this was actually in the Hartsdale fire district. Their members were on scene soon enough and Scarsdale firefighters left the residence. 

Was it jewelry or art? 

Burglary and grand larceny were reported Sept. 13 from a single-family home on Saxon Woods Road. Felony level criminal mischief was also reported. The complainant, a bank representative, lives in Union, N.J. The homeowner's primary address is Manhattan. A piece of property, not described by the police, valued at $400,000 was reported stolen. The complainant said an unknown person illegally entered the residence and stole it. The incident is under investigation. 

Grand larceny and fraud reported 

Police are investigating fraud and grand larceny reported Sept. 14 by a Crossway resident. Identity theft was also reported. The victim, a female, 71, said nearly $49,000 was stolen from her bank account via a forged check. She requested a police report to give to her bank in hopes of having the lost funds restored. 

DOG-GONE IT!  A Yorkshire terrier ran away from home. (Hope he's back safe and sound.)

Yorkie on the loose 

A caller Sept. 14 on Brewster Road reported her Yorkshire terrier ran off the property. Police entered the loose dog in what they call their “Dog Book.” No further information was available about the dog. 

Missing young man reported no longer missing 

A caller Sept. 14 reported a young man riding a dirt bike pulling into peoples’ driveways on Ridgecrest West and Fenimore Road and then leaving. The caller said he was wearing a red face mask. Police made contact and discovered the man was reported missing from White Plains. Their police department was notified he was no longer missing. As he is 20 years old and declined help, no further action was taken. 

Flooded basement 

A malfunctioning clothes washer brought police and fire personnel Sept. 15 to a home on Walworth Avenue. The wall to wall carpet on the home’s basement floor absorbed all the water. Firefighters said there wasn’t enough standing water for them to pump out and left the area. 

Don’t mock the driver’s accent  

A caller Sept. 15 on East Parkway reported a taxi driver was yelling at people. The caller said he said something that upset the driver who began cursing at him. The caller said he decided to call an Uber. Central Taxi was contacted by police. The employee said he felt the complainant was mocking his accent and that their argument was verbal only. Patrol remained on scene until both parties left the area. 

Lost and then found 

A caller Sept. 15 reported a Coach handbag someone accidentally left on a bench in Depot Plaza. Police retrieved the bag and returned it to its owner. Eve Marx
