Miscommunications, fraudulent funny business, and dogs at large
Scarsdale Police Report Oct. 7-Oct. 13
Property line dispute
A Lyons Road resident Oct. 7 called the police regarding a construction project happening at their neighbor’s home. They feared a wall the neighbor was erecting would damage their own property. The caller was advised to contact the building department.
That curly-haired man (again)
A curly haired man was reported suspicious Oct. 7 walking on Mamaroneck Avenue. He was described as having a round build and wearing a black military vest. Another caller reported seeing him in town similarly attired a week earlier. Patrol looked for him without result and saw nothing suspicious.
Checking mailboxes
A caller on Griffen Avenue Oct. 7 told police she has video of a person checking mailboxes. She said the person opened them and then ran off. Nothing was reported stolen. Police observed no criminal activity in the video. The same caller called back two days later to report kids looking in mailboxes. Nothing was reported taken.
The good old days
A caller Oct. 7 stated two people, a man and a woman exited a Central Taxi Crown Victoria cab they’d hired through the cab company’s dispatch and took a photograph of themselves outside a town administration building. The caller found their presence suspicious. The driver of the taxi was contacted and said he knew nothing about the pair besides they requested a tour of the Village to reminisce about their time in Scarsdale. No further action was taken.
Lost jewelry in the bathroom
A Carstensen Road caller Oct. 7 reported a pair of valuable earrings went missing from her bathroom where she’d taken them to clean them. She didn’t believe the earrings, valued at about $29,000, were stolen. A report was made for documentation.
Found wallet
A passerby Oct. 8 handed over to police a wallet they found on Mamaroneck Avenue. Police contacted the wallet’s owner who made plans to retrieve it.
Package stolen from driveway
Larceny was reported Oct. 8 by a caller on Kent Road who said a package was stolen from his driveway. His security footage showed a silver sedan and a man dressed in black exiting the vehicle and leaving with the package. The caller said they only wanted a report made for documentation.
Bad driving, er, cycling
No one was injured Oct. 8 in the afternoon when a motorist was struck by a bicyclist at Post Road and Drake Road. The car driver said they were stopped at a red light in the left lane of traffic facing north when a cyclist on a motorized bike rear ended them and then fled the scene.
Two cars collided Oct. 9 on Post Road and Fenimore. One driver parked on the far right southbound lane on Post Road to assist another motorist experiencing engine issues. Another car traveling southbound struck his vehicle, damaging it, and kept on going. He described it as a white Toyota but had nothing further.
Grand larceny
A Yonkers man, 55, was arrested Oct. 9, charged with grand larceny involving a credit card. The crime happened Sept. 27. The victim is an elderly Scarsdale resident. The defendant was taken into custody and to court to respond to the charges. He was then placed in a cell and processed and released. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 24.
Not sleeping
A caller Oct. 9 reported a man sleeping on a bench on Secor Road. Police drove by and the man was upright and using his cellphone.
More funny business surrounding credit fraud
Grand larceny and criminal impersonation were reported Oct. 9 by a Scarsdale woman who said her property was stolen. Another Scarsdale resident was also listed as a victim. Precisely what was taken was redacted from the official report. The primary victim came to headquarters to report this impersonation fraud resulting in their financial loss.
Miscommunication
A caller on Church Lane Oct. 9 called police to say she thought someone was inside her house. Police arrived and saw workmen working on the roof. The caller told police she didn’t know anything about it and that her husband makes all the arrangements for work done on the house.
Jumped the fence
Police went to an address on Mamaroneck Avenue Oct. 10 in the early morning hours for a burglary complaint. The caller was unable to give any description of a person or persons the caller believes jumped the fence with the intent to break in. Police checked the exterior of the home and immediate surrounding area but saw nothing suspicious or criminal. A report was made of the incident.
Sick skunk
A sick skunk was reported Oct. 10 in a Brookfield Lane backyard. Police saw it in the backyard and advised the caller to consult a professional trapper to remove it.
Loose dogs break neighbor’s fence
A caller on Madison Road Oct. 10 reported two dogs broke his fence to get to his dog. He wants the fence fixed. Police and the animal control officer went to the location regarding two black dogs that got loose from Rodney Road. The reporting party said neither he nor his dog were bitten. The black dogs’ owner said landscapers had removed part of her own fence and didn’t put it back which is how the dogs got loose. All parties were advised to bring vaccination proof and dog licenses to headquarters to pursue resolution to the fence incident.
Dog at large
A housekeeper Oct. 11 came to retrieve her employer’s dog who was found roaming off leash on Murray Hill Road. The dog was brought to the police by a Sheldrake Road resident who found it. While patrol was attempting to contact the dog’s owner, the housekeeper arrived. A summons was issued for “dog at large” and the dog went home with the housekeeper.
On his way
A caller Oct. 11 reported a man wrapped up in clothes lying down in a green space at the intersection of Post Road and Huntington Avenue. Police spoke to the man who said he was just taking a rest. He was offered services which he declined and said he’d be on his way.
Door banger
A Stratton Road caller Oct. 12 reported someone aggressively banging on their door for fifteen minutes. Police came by but didn’t see anything or anyone suspicious.
Kids party
A Berwick Road caller Oct. 13 called 911 to report “30,000 kids” were at a party on her street which she said was littered with bottles thrown in the roadway. Police arrived and saw several kids gathered at the edge of the property line. On police arrival, they immediately dispersed. The homeowner said her son advised her uninvited kids were beginning to show up and decided the party was over and all invited attendees had arranged for their pick up. Police checked the property and saw no kids in need of assistance and it appeared all attendees had dispersed safely.
