Fun, fun, fun!
Witch way to good times? Head for these events this weekend.
FRI. OCT. 4
IT’S UNREAL Watch in awe as two magicians and master illusionists take you into the world of the supernatural. They’ll conjure the spirits of Sleepy Hollow country, including, naturally—or unnaturally—the Headless Horseman. The dearly departed have messages for you…if you’re courageous enough to listen to their mournful musings. Recommended for ages 10+. Three showings—6:00 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 9:00 p.m.; $65 to $89; Philipsburg Manor, 381 N. Broadway, Sleepy Hollow; tickets $65-$80; buy tickets here.
GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROADWAY Instead of hopping the train to the Great White Way, enjoy some first-class theatrical entertainment in Port Chester. Audience members at The Broadway Rave often cosplay as their favorite characters, but if that’s not your jam then just sing and dance to hit show tunes. Bonus: Expect surprise Broadway stars to take the stage. Ages 21+ with valid I.D. 8:00 p.m., doors open at 7:00 p.m.; Garcia’s at the Capitol Theater; 149 Westchester Ave.; Port Chester; $34.75; buy tickets here.
VERY FUNNY David Sedaris, one of America’s leading humor writers and the author of 10 New York Times bestsellers, will leave you in stitches at the Performing Arts Center at Purchase College. What, you need more convincing? He regularly writes for The New Yorker, too. If his acerbic wit and crazy stories don’t crack you up, his wry social commentary will. 8:00 p.m.; Performing Arts Center at Purchase; 735 Anderson Hill Rd, Purchase; $18.75-75.00; buy tickets here.
SAT. OCT. 5
DONUTS AND PUMPKINS - NO ORCHARD TRIP NECESSARY The Fall Family Festival in Rye has all the bells and whistles of a seasonal orchard, minus the “Are we there yet?” car trip. Kids’ tickets include a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch to paint, unlimited bounce castle play and hay rides, cotton candy, and more. There are also more than 2,000 pumpkins—purchase your fave for your porch—plus food, shopping vendors, and other fun stuff. 12:00 pm.-6:00 p.m.; Rye Town Park, 95 Dearborn Ave., Rye; Adult tickets are free, $35 plus fees ($40.13 total) for kids 3 and up; buy tickets here.
QUIET ON SET The 1920s silent film Safety Last includes some of the most famous scenes in movie history. Actor Harold Lloyd, playing a young man who moves to the city so he can make money and marry his girlfriend, performed many of the crazy stunts himself. Bedford Playhouse is showing this classic, accompanied by live piano to emulate the way audiences experienced the flick 101 years ago. All ages. 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.; Bedford Playhouse, 633 Old Post Rd., Bedford; $21.50, buy tickets here.
GO GOTH A worldwide hit, the musical Jekyll & Hyde makes its debut at the White Plains Performing Arts Center. Based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s epic story, it’s a thrilling examination of the eternal battle between good and evil. The music, though, is pure pop rock, making the show modern despite its 1800s origins. 7:30 p.m.; White Plains Performing Arts Center, 11 City Pl., White Plains; $67; buy tickets here.
SUN. OCT. 6
WHEELY AWESOME Scarsdale’s very own Concours D’Elegance is back—a day when cool and classic cars will be parked in the heart of the village for event attendees to admire. Proud owners are usually happy to tell about their well-loved autos, and you’ll get an up-close look at all the incredible details that make each model so coveted. You’ll be supporting worthy causes as well: Over the past 20 years, the Concours has raised more than $600,000 for charities across Westchester County. 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Corner of Chase Rd. and Christie Pl., Scarsdale Village, Scarsdale; suggested donation $15.
PHANTOM OF THE THEATER Many people have passed through the Tarrytown Music Hall—and some that have passed away still linger within. Take a guided tour of this landmark, which is listed on the official Haunted History Trail of New York and has been investigated by the Gotham Paranormal Research Society. FYI, the organization has detected paranormal activity there, so be prepared for thrills and chills. 10:00 a.m., Tarrytown Music Hall, 13 Main st., Tarrytown; $29.00; buy tickets here after proving you’re not a robot (ugh).
