Hey, what’s that new thing at Martine’s?
We’ll “fill you in.”
BY DEBORAH SKOLNIK
If you’ve stopped been by Martine’s in the past 10 days or so, you may have seen something new, what looks like an old-time soda fountain. In fact, it’s something entirely different. Rather than spouting Coke or seltzer, it’s filled with small vats of strawberry jelly, pistachio cream, and Nutella.
While it might be tempting (or perhaps stomach-churning) to order a straight cup of one of the three, that’s not what they’re for: Instead, they are custom fillings for the buttery Martine’s croissants that are already many a dieter’s downfall. Simply select your sin, and an employee will make sure your flaky pastry oozes with it at first bite.
The store began offering the custom fillings about 10 days ago, and so far, an employee reports, it’s been extremely popular. When asked which filling is the most popular, she answered “Nutella, by a mile.” Is that the one you’d choose? Might as well try them all.
