Board of Trustees hears pool proposal
Faced with four options for renovating the Scarsdale Pool Complex, the Board of Trustees made an important decision about one to further explore.

On Tuesday, January 28th, the Village Board of Trustees met, in part to discuss the future (if any) of the Scarsdale Pool. Members of the Pool Advisory Council presented different options for the complex, each with its pros and cons.
The various iterations all took into account Scarsdalians’ wishes as expressed during a public work session on October 29th, 2024, and a public comment period that followed through December 1st, 2024. Now, it was the Trustees’ turn to review and select one of the four proposed programs to advance to a schematic design. As could reasonably be expected, the proposals varied widely in price points and amenities, ranging from “Get out of the splash pad and come sit next to me in this lovely gazebo”-level amenities to “Well, it’s better than that giant puddle in front of the high school” basics.
Program 1, the most posh, would include a full indoor pool complex, three seasonal pools, a splash pad, nicer bathhouse facilities, community spaces, and a place to get a bite, among other amenities.
In comparison, program 1a would basically be the same, minus the indoor pool complex.
Program 2 would be a rebuilt complex in exactly the same layout as the existing one, but with updates to meet code. The bathhouses wouldn’t be expanded or upgraded, and there would be no community space, something Scarsdale’s seniors have expressed a wish to include.
Program 3 would still provide residents with a pool complex, but a greatly reduced one featuring only a single pool, rebuilt to be code compliant but with no additional amenities or community space.
Of course, the costs of the four Programs varied in step with their scope and amenities. The Village Trustees pondered a slide explaining the estimated discrepancies between the various iterations.
Ultimately, the Board of Trustees decided to take a deep dive into bettering the Pool Complex, and voted for Option 1. More on the story as the Insider continues its reporting this weekend. Meanwhile, which option would you choose?
