Dobbs & Bishop Closes

A new cheese shop has shuttered.

Not gouda news  Dobbs & Bishop quickly folded.

It was only in November 2023 that Dobbs & Bishop, an upscale cheese market, opened. It seemed like a sure thing, nestled in downtown Scarsdale alongside stores such as Learning Express and Bronx River Books. Sadly, though, it wasn’t.

A visit on Wednesday found a lone man inside, wiping down counters. He looked up, sighed, and opened the door. When asked if the store was merely closed for the evening, he shared that it had already closed down entirely. After stating he is not one of the owners, he was reluctant to answer questions as to why Dobbs & Ferris ceased operations. “Lots of different factors,” he said, declining to cite insufficient traffic or other factors. With that, he politely closed the door and resumed cleaning. (The photo above was taken at a side angle, lest we irritated the man.) A message left for the store’s owners was not returned.

The shutdown is a disheartening setback for Scarsdale, which has in recent years made strides in reversing the shuttering of businesses. For now, townies can find their cheeses at nearby groceries offering a delectable variety. They include DeCicco Family Markets, just steps away, and Balducci’s in Heathcote. Dobbs & Bishop’s Bronxville location remains open.
